The Utilities Board of the City of Foley Issues Public Notices on Sewage Spills:
(Foley, AL.) – On Thursday, June 19, 2023, The Utilities Board of the City of Foley experienced three (3) separate sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) as a result of a flash flooding event that led to a rainfall accumulation of 3-5 inches within a couple hours. These three (3) SSO locations are summarized below:
1. An SSO occurred at the WWTP (1000 Greentree Lane) between 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2023. The SSO resulted in up to 10,000 gallons of sanitary sewer being discharged to Wolf Creek.
2. An SSO occurred at Pebble Creek Lift Station (located within Pebble Creek Subdivision off Hickory Street just north of CR20) between 2:36 p.m. and 4:21 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2023. The SSO resulted in up to 25,000 gallons of sanitary sewer being discharged to Bon Secour River.
3. An SSO occurred at a manhole along CR20 just west of Hwy 59 between 1:30 p.m. and 6:13 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2023. The SSO resulted in up to 10,000 gallons of sanitary sewer being discharged to the drainage ditch along CR20, which ultimately drains to Bon Secour River.
A copy of the reports submitted to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management for each of these three (3) events are attached for reference.
The Utilities Board of the City of Foley responds to overflows in a manner consistent with state and federal standards. We urge residents to exercise caution using these associated bodies of water for recreational purposes, thoroughly cook any fish or seafood caught in these areas, and thoroughly wash their hands after handling any fish or seafood from these areas.
