The Utilities Board of the City of Foley Issues Public Notice on Sewage Spill:
(Foley, AL.) – On Thursday, June 2, 2023, The Utilities Board of the City of Foley experienced a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) from 4:15 p.m. to 6:19 p.m. An air valve failed on a reactor at the WWTP resulting in a discharge of partially treated wastewater over the weir of the reactor. Approximately 100,000 gallons of partially treated effluent passed through the WWTP and discharged to Wolf Creek through the permitted outfall.
A copy of the data submitted to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management for this event is attached for reference.
The Utilities Board of the City of Foley responds to overflows in a manner consistent with state and federal standards. We urge residents to exercise caution using these associated bodies of water for recreational purposes, thoroughly cook any fish or seafood caught in these areas, and thoroughly wash their hands after handling any fish or seafood from these areas.
