Riviera Utilities announces new CEO, Brian Skelton

Foley, AL - Riviera Utilities’ Board of Directors is delighted to announce the conclusion of their executive search for the Utility's next Chief Executive Officer/President. After a thorough process, Brian Skelton, of Tullahoma Utilities Authority in Tennessee, was selected during a special Board meeting on February 19, 2024, to begin his term in May.

Brian Skelton was chosen to lead Riviera after careful consideration of his extensive career in Utilities where he served as President of Tullahoma Utilities Authority, General Manager at Bowling Green Municipal Utilities, and Director of Opelika Power Services. In addition to his experience leading multi-service utilities like Tullahoma, he held leadership roles with the Tennessee Municipal Electric Power Association (TMEPA), American Public Power Association (APPA), and Tennessee Valley Public Power Association (TVPPA).

Above all, Skelton's inclusive leadership style, strong communication skills, passion for positive community impact, and integrity were at the cornerstone of this decision.

"The search and selection process was extensive, but we are fortunate to have had the time needed to find and appoint a CEO who will sustain Riviera's reputation of excellence while empowering internal leaders to grow and develop," said Barbara Ingram, Riviera's Board Chair. "Brian brings a wealth of experience, fresh perspective, and proven leadership skills that match the Utility's existing momentum while propelling Riviera forward."

The selection process, spearheaded by executive search firm Heidrick & Struggles (H&S), began last September, with an internal and external application process attracting a multitude of applicants from throughout the region. H&S conducted initial interviews, shared their findings, and the Board narrowed down the search to four internal and external candidates. The Board conducted in-depth interviews focusing on community involvement, leadership, customer relations, financial management, and relationship development.

Brian and his wife Monica have begun their search for a new home in our service area. The Skeltons' are thrilled to start a new chapter in Foley, and are eagerly anticipating visits from their two sons, Robert and Heath.

"Monica and I are excited about my opportunity to work at Riviera Utilities and live in the Foley area," Skelton said. "This will be our second time in Alabama, where we found the community to be warm and welcoming. I look forward to meeting all of the employees and getting to work when I arrive in May!"
